International Coastal Cleanup

Join us on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2026 for the 41st International Coastal Cleanup — the world’s largest one-day volunteer effort for our oceans and waterways! Show your commitment to reducing marine debris alongside millions of volunteers across the globe. Miami-Dade’s participation, organized by VolunteerCleanup.org and Clean Miami-Dade, features 65+ cleanups all over the county with 4,000 volunteers. This specific cleanup is being led by Deering Estate’s Conservation Team!

T-shirts with this year’s marine animal theme, the Humpback whale, are available for purchase. Order before August 30 if you want your shirt to arrive before the cleanup.

Important details:

  • Registration is required to participate in the cleanup.
  • A paper waiver for Miami-Dade County Parks will be provided on the day of the event. ** However, if you are under 18 and coming without a parent or guardian, you must have a parent/guardian print and sign the waiver HERE in advance, and bring it with you to the cleanup.
  • We will provide garbage bags, gloves, and data collection cards. Community Service hours are also provided
  • Please bring water in a reusable container. Let’s reduce waste and refuse single-use disposable plastic water bottles.
  • Download the Ocean Conservancy’s CleanSwell app to participate in the Citizen Science activity to log, tally and measure the impact of your cleanup.
  • Dress for the weather and wear appropriate footwear. This is a mangrove/paved type of site and you should wear closed-toed athletic shoes, are best. Flipflops or sandals are NOT permitted.
  • Sunglasses, hats, and sunscreen are recommended.
  • If you have your own reusable working or gardening type gloves, bring them. We will be providing gloves but cannot guarantee they will be in your size.
  • Some volunteers like to use a bucket during a cleanup. Ask a local restaurant, bakery, or donut shop if they get food items in 5-gallon buckets they’d be willing to donate for your cleanup!
