Magela Herrera is a Cuban-born flutist, vocalist, composer, and recording artist who grew up between two worlds: her family’s deep ties to a large set of unique traditions influenced mainly by Afrocuban music and the years she spent learning and studying classical music at the Conservatory of Music in her native Havana. Through the years, Herrera has shared the stage with an extensive list of acclaimed international artists, including Chucho Valdez (Cuba), Hernan Lopez-Nussa (Cuba), Jan Eggum (Norway), Oslo Chamber Orchestra (Norway), Munir Hossn (Brasil), Ralph Alessi (USA) to name a few. Praised often for her unique background, including Euro jazz, after finishing her studies at the Norwegian Academy of Music (Norway), Herrera developed her incredible enchanting, and vibrant sound. The Latin Jazz network has said of Herrera, “Here is a bonafide star who seems completely made of music as she and her instrument all but becomes a part of the natural landscape (of the music) that mixes great beauty with seminal mysticism.” She is one of the most exciting female instrumentalists today.
