Foundation Special Events Volunteer

  • Description: This position provides assistance during special events hosted by the Deering Estate Foundation taking place at the Deering Estate.
  • Special EventsDeering Seafood FestivalChefs Table on the BayMistletoe & Martinis, or Members Appreciation Day.
  • Work LocationDeering Estate, 16701 SW 72 Avenue, Palmetto Bay, FL 33157
  • Responsibilities and Duties: Assigned tasks include main gate assistance with will-call, visitor flow, guest arrival, and customer service and ushering at the program booths, lawn games, set up and cleanup of various event stations
  • Qualifications: This requires interactions with the public, being accustomed to Florida’s humid/warm outdoor environment, and standing throughout their shift. Day and evening events are scheduled.
  • Commitment Expected: Event volunteers are expected to volunteer for 4 to 8-hour shifts. Shifts are scheduled in advance and volunteers must commit to a brief onsite training.
  • Training: All volunteers will be trained on the job at the individual location in the areas of responsibilities for each site.
  • Standards and Performance: Volunteer will report to work on the day (s) assigned. The volunteer will check in with the supervisor for the day’s duties and shift sign in. Once the volunteer has finished their shift, they will sign out. If the volunteer cannot make the assigned date or time, he/she will notify the supervisor before the shift starts.

Special Events Volunteer

  • Description: This position provides assistance during special events taking place at the Deering Estate.
  • Special EventsMoon Viewing, Holiday Bay Cruise, Moonlight & Music Valentines Day Concert, select Holiday events, etc.
  • Work LocationDeering Estate, 16701 SW 72 Avenue, Palmetto Bay, FL 33157

Gardening, Weeding, and Adopt-a-Trail Volunteer

  • Description: This position assists the grounds crew with their daily duties of maintaining the Deering Estate’s manicured garden areas.
  • Work LocationDeering Estate, 16701 SW 72 Avenue, Palmetto Bay, FL 33157
  • Responsibilities and Duties: Assigned tasks will include assisting in weeding, gardening, and other landscaping related tasks.
  • Qualifications: This work requires a novice level of experience with landscaping and or gardening. Volunteers should be able to lift 25lbs or more, work with basic garden tools, and be accustomed to Florida’s humid/warm outdoor environment.
  • Commitment Expected: Varies based on location, but generally, the desired work schedule is Monday-Friday for a minimum of 3 hours per day.
  • Training: All volunteers will be trained on the job at the individual location in the areas of responsibilities for each site.
  • Standards and Performance: This volunteer opportunity is available only during Monday- Friday and organized in 2-3-hour shifts. The volunteer will report to work on the day (s) assigned. The volunteer will check in with the supervisor for the day’s duties and shift sign in. Once the volunteer has finished their shift, they will sign out. If the volunteer cannot make the assigned date or time, he/she will notify the supervisor before the shift starts.

Coastal Clean-up Volunteer

  • Description: This position assists with marine debris removal at Deering Point, located just half a mile south of the Deering Estate Main Entrance.
  • Work Location:  Deering Point, 17350 Old Cutler Rd, Palmetto Bay, FL 33157
  • Responsibilities and Duties: Assigned tasks will include manual removal of plastic and glass along the coastline of Biscayne Bay.
  • Qualifications: This is entry-level work. Volunteers will perform labor-intensive work and should be accustomed to Florida’s humid/warm outdoor environment.
  • Commitment Expected: Varies based on location, but generally, the desired work schedule is Monday-Sunday for a minimum of 2 hours per day.
  • Training: All volunteers will be trained on the job at the individual location in the areas of responsibilities for each site.
  • Standards and Performance: This volunteer opportunity is available Monday-Sunday and organized in 2 hr shifts. The volunteer will report to work on the day (s) assigned. The volunteer will check in with the supervisor for the day’s duties and shift sign in. Once the volunteer has finished their shift, they will sign out. If the volunteer cannot make the assigned date or time, he/she will notify the supervisor before the shift starts.

Visitor Guide and Museum Exhibit Volunteer

  • Description: This position assists guests with information and directions on-site and in our historic house museum.
  • Work LocationDeering Estate, 16701 SW 72 Avenue, Palmetto Bay, FL 33157
  • Responsibilities and Duties: Assigned tasks will include acting as a guide or host, assisting with guest relations, ushering, and other special exhibits& event activities.
  • Qualifications: This requires interactions with the public and standing throughout their shift.
  • Commitment Expected: Varies based on location, but generally, the desired work schedule is Monday-Sunday for a minimum of 4 hours per day.
  • Training: All volunteers will be trained on the job at the individual location in the areas of responsibilities for each site.
  • Standards and Performance: Volunteer will report to work on the day (s) assigned. The volunteer will check in with the supervisor for the day’s duties and shift sign in. Once the volunteer has finished their shift, they will sign out. If the volunteer cannot make the assigned date or time, he/she will notify the supervisor before the shift starts.
