Offered during select Teacher Planning Days. Every camp has a different theme and explores a different aspect of nature, allowing campers to have fun while also learning about different fields of science. Please bring lunch and snacks, refillable water bottle, closed-toe shoes, change of clothes, sunblock and bug spray, and hat and sunglasses.

Ages: 6 to 14

Time: 8AM- 4PM (pickup by 5pm). Drop off & pickup are located at the Visitor Center.

Cost: $40 per child, per date. Spaces are limited!

2023:
Monday, September 25
Reef relief
Campers will learn about the ecology of coral reefs, and threats to corals like sea temperature rising and pollution. They will complete experiments about the science of coral restoration.

Friday, October 27
Birds of a Feather
Campers will learn to identify different bird species. Activities will include an owl pellet dissection and bird nest experiment. They will also go birding and record the birds they see on eBird.

Monday, November 20
Totally Bugging
Campers will bug out as they explore the natural areas on a bug hunt for the diverse insects that can be found at Dering Estate. They will contribute to our native garden by building bug hotels!

Monday, November 21
Time Travelers
Campers will travel back to learn about various cultures of Deering Estates history through a mock archeologist excavation, and during a Historic House Tour scavenger hunt.

Friday, December 22
Science Safari
Campers with take a tram ride through our natural areas to learn about the ecosystems protected at Deering Estate, then they will challenge their engineering skills building jellybean towers.

Campers will learn about the adaptations of reptiles and fishes that are found in our backyard. Learn about the impacts that invasive species have and the importance of our endangered species.
