Discover Deering Day
October 14 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm EDT
Join us on Saturday, October 14th from 10 am to 3 pm as we highlight some of our programs and partners at this year’s Discover Deering Day. Come view a partial solar eclipse, take a boat ride (for an additional fee), or go on a nature walk and discover what is coming up at Deering Estate for the 2023-2024 season. The day will include a full line up of nature, history and cultural programs. The main event will be from 10am – 3pm with before and after hour programs available by pre-registration.
It is estimated that the partial solar eclipse viewing will begin at 11.56 a.m. / maximum viewing at 1:33 p.m. / ending at 3:11 p.m. Complimentary protective viewing glasses will be provided with general admission/membership on a first come, first serve basis, beginning at 10am. One pair of glasses per group or family, first come, first served, and based on availability. While supplies last.
Protect your eyes! Guests are asked to bring their own protective lenses (not sunglasses). Never look directly at the Sun, eclipsed or otherwise, without any protective eyewear. The Sun’s UV radiation can burn the retinas in your eyes leading to permanent damage or even blindness. The best way to safely watch a total solar eclipse is to wear protective eclipse glasses or to project an image of the eclipsed Sun using a pinhole projector.
Please note: Protective glasses will be available at the main gate beginning at 10 a.m. with general admission/membership. One pair of glasses per group or family, first come, first served, and based on availability. While supplies last.
Cost: Free with General Admission: $15 for adults & $7 for children (ages 4-14). Free for Deering Estate Foundation Members (show your membership card at the Ticket Booth) and children under 4 years old. General Admission can be purchased onsite or online (choose date: October 14,2023).
