Affair en Plein Air
A call to artists is currently underway for “Affair En Plein Air,” a two-day outdoor juried painting experience with partner GroveHouse Artists at the Deering Estate on Saturday, January 16, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and on Sunday, January 17, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The event is juried by Laurie Escobar. Categories include: Adults 18 years and older, and High School Students in grades 9 through 12. Judging will take place on Sunday, January 17, 2021, at 1:30 p.m. Winners and submissions will be exhibited at the Deering Estate in the early Spring of 2021. Registration deadline is January 8, 2021. No registrations will be accepted on the day of the event.
Plein air painting is a long-standing tradition of painting in the “open and full air” directly from nature, rather than work done in a studio or from photos or other recorded images. Artists will paint scenes on-site and in the plein air of the beautiful and historic Deering Estate grounds.
$35 Adult registration fee for Non-GroveHouse Artists (up to 2 pieces)
$25 Adult registration fee for GroveHouse Artists members (up to 2 pieces)
$25 High school students, Grades 9-12, with one chaperone (up to 2 pieces)
Light snacks, coffee, and water will be provided. Please bring lunch and all supplies.
Artists interested in participating in the two-day outdoor juried painting event must complete a formal application, found here. About the Juror, Laurie Escobar:
A Miami native, Laurie Escobar has been a professional in the field of contemporary art for over 20 years after studying Art History at Florida International University and the Rome Center in Italy. She has worked directly with numerous local as well as international art museums, institutions, and foundations. She served as Curator for The Related Group before joining the Cintas Foundation, a nonprofit based in New York and Miami that grants fellowships in Architecture & Design, Creative Writing, Music Composition, and the Visual Arts.

GroveHouse Artists, Inc., (GHA) was started in 2005 and has a history of collaboration with curators and event planners in Coconut Grove and the South Florida region by fostering community partnerships and participation in the arts. An exhibiting partner organization with the Deering Estate since 2007, GHA continues to engage their artist members, new students and the public with events such as Affair en Plein Air as well as arts education workshops with guest jurors and lecturers. Funds awarded are courtesy of generous donation from GHA sponsors and form event application fees.
