Deering Estate Theater, Visitor’s Center Parking Lot, 7220 SW 168th Street, Miami, FL 33157

FM: Resonant Field will showcase how Barge and Matamoros merge their performances with environments, creating sonic ecosystems that flourish, transform, and adapt like living organisms. The sound art of Barge and Matamoros serves as an antidote to the existential crisis between humans and nature, fostering a deep connection between the two realms. Their work emphasizes the interdependence between human-made structures and the natural environment, reminding us of our shared responsibility for the planet.

A workshop at Locust Projects: In advance of FM: Resonant Field, Barge and Matamoros will conduct a workshop at Locust Projects, where they will share insights into their creative process and perform using samples from their recent works. This workshop will provide a unique opportunity to experience their electro-acoustic sound installations, which have captivated audiences for over a decade.

Tickets are free and open to the public with R.S.V.P. online.

Cultural Arts Programming at the Deering Estate is made possible with the support of the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and the Cultural Affairs Council, the Miami-Dade County Mayor and Board of County Commissioners, and The Deering Estate Foundation, Inc. About the Frozen Music
Frozen Music (FM) is a collaborative sound art project composed of three members: Rene Barge, Gustavo Matamoros, and David Dunn. Though Dunn, an essential figure in the collective and based in Santa Fe, NM, is unable to join for this occasion, his contributions are deeply woven into FM’s philosophy. The practice of FM emphasizes the creation of electro-acoustic sound installations that resonate with both natural and man-made environments, fostering a profound sensory connection between the two realms. By integrating inaudible properties, bio-acoustic recordings, and sounds from prior performance spaces, FM’s work creates living, breathing sonic ecosystems that reflect the rhythms and patterns of nature.
