Deering Estate Presents Oscillation: Beekeeping Sculptural Workshop with Environmental Artist Camila Young. Join us for a hands-on outdoor workshop on Saturday, June 27th, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Deering Estate.

Participants will create a hanging sculpture using locally harvested bamboo and biodegradable twine, an ecologically mindful piece that also functions as a bee hotel supporting solitary pollinators. Guided by themes of tides, flow, and our interconnected place in nature, this workshop explores where art and conservation meet.

This event will take place outside unless weather conditions require a shift in plans. Please dress for the weather and bring a hat, sunblock and water. Sheers are recommended.

About the Facilitator:
As an artist, Camila explores the intersection of climate advocacy, accessibility, and cultural engagement. Her work challenges audiences to reconsider their relationship with the environment through multisensory experiences that bridge the gap between the seen and the unseen. By integrating tactile elements, music, and visual art, She aims to create inclusive exhibitions that foster dialogue and inspire action. Her recent projects have engaged diverse audiences, from international climate conferences to community-driven exhibitions, demonstrating that art is not just an aesthetic experience but a catalyst for change. She is particularly interested in collaborative opportunities that bring together artists, institutions, and policymakers to amplify the role of art in shaping a sustainable future. She is deeply grateful for the influence the Deering Estate has had on my understanding of conservation and the importance of preserving heritage sites. Growing up near the estate, She has come to truly appreciate its role in protecting both the environment and the history that surrounds it.
