2025 IMPRESSIONS
- Feb 16 2025
- Expired!
- 2:00 pm
In “2025 IMPRESSIONS,” New World School of the Arts (NWSA) merges the Deering Estate and Vizcaya Museum and Gardens as the “sets” for student explorations in film and cinematography. On Sunday, February 16 at 2 p.m, guests can enjoy the screening of some of the short films created by students in the Fall 2024 film class taught by professors Alisa Pitchenik Charles and Tony Fernandez. The films selected are shot on-site at The Deering Estate and Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, blending the two locations often seamlessly into a cohesive vision. The screening includes exercises leading up to their final film-exploring Downtown Miami, Vizcaya Museum and Gardens and The Deering Estate. This programming expands the film vocabulary of students through story and cinematography that weave stories in various genres from horror, comedy to sci-fi to showcase students’ perspectives and expressive abilities through film.
“2025 IMPRESSIONS” short films were created in the NWSA ART+TECH class Advanced Projects: Video Film under the direction and guidance of Professor Alisa Pitchenik Charles and Professor and Deering Estate Artist-in-Residence Tony Fernandez, who have team-taught the course together at (NWSA) “New World College” for over fifteen years. Deering Estate’s Head Curator Liliam Dominguez, and Elgin Grey, Adult Learning and Interpretation Manager at Vizcaya Museum and Gardens permitted the students to generously use the grounds of the estates to explore their films and merge two or more environments to weave their tales. The Deering brother’s commitment to art merges in the films and the student’s exposure to both homes, landscapes, perspectives, art collections, and the past and present commitment to preservation of art and the environment.
The screening of the films is on Sunday, February 16, 2025 at 2 PM at the Deering Estate Visitor Center Theater.
The program is FREE with RSVP on Eventbrite
