Join us for Virtual Science classes through Zoom. This classes are geared for students ages 9-14. Class materials will be available prior to the first class at our Visitor Center through contactless pickup. Classes will explore the fields of wildlife biology, marine biology, ecology, and environmental science.

September 2, 2020      Activity: Intro to Nature Journaling and Field guides  

Description: Participants will learn and discuss the basics for Nature Journaling and discover the value of recording detailed observations of the natural world around them. Students will construct nature journals which will be used for the remaining September classes.

September 9, 2020      Activity: Ethnobotany field guide

Description: Students will discover the numerous uses of plants and their benefits to humankind while adding an real plant leaves to an ethnobotany field guide in their nature journals. They will also virtually explore the Hardwood hammock to gain insight of this important habit.

September 16, 2020    Activity: Mangrove field guide

Description: Students will learn all about the important Mangrove habitat as they develop a mangrove field guide. Students will also learn how to identify the three species of mangroves as well animals found in this habitat as they learn about the role of mangroves in supporting south Florida’s coastal wildlife.

September 23, 2020    Activity: Scientific method

Description: Students learn all about chemical reactions as they design, build, and test their very own film canister rockets by applying the scientific method. By analyzing the steps in constructing a science experiment, participants will report their results and discuss how the scientific method can be applied to conserving our natural resources.
