Offered during select Teacher Planning Days. Every camp has a different theme and explores a different aspect of nature, allowing campers to have fun while also learning about different fields of science. Please bring lunch and snacks, refillable water bottle, closed-toe shoes, change of clothes, sunblock and bug spray, and hat and sunglasses. Ages: 6 to 14
Time: 8AM- 4PM (pickup by 5pm). Drop off & pickup are located at the Visitor Center.
Cost: $40 per child, per date. Spaces are limited!
Activity: Science Safari
Campers with take a tram ride through our natural areas to learn about the different ecosystems protected at Deering Estate, then they will make slime and conduct a Ball run challenge experiment.
Activity: All About Birds
Campers will learn to identify different bird species. Activities will include an egg drop experiment and owl pellet dissection. They will also go birding, and record the birds they see on eBird.
Activity: Keep it Native
Campers will learn about the importance of Native species and their roles in the local ecosystems. Activities will include working to complete a native plant guide, and interacting with our class pets.
Activity: A Blast from the Past
Campers will travel back to learn about various cultures of Deering Estates history through a mock archeologist excavation, and during a Historic House Tour scavenger hunt.
Activity: Bugging Out
Campers will bug out as they explore the natural areas on a bug hunt for the diverse insects that can be found at Dering Estate. They will get up close looks at bugs and butterflies, before conducting an experiment where they design and fly insect wings!
Activity: Out of this World
Campers will have a blast as they design and launch model rockets. They will also explore South Florida geology through a rock observation, learning about the various ways rocks are formed before creating model volcanoes which will explode!
Activity: Stay Green
In preparation for Earth Day, campers will be learning about the easy eco-friendly habits they can adopt in their lifestyle. Activities will include learning how to recycle materials into useful crafts, and conduct a trash cleanup of one of our ecosystems.
