A call to artists is currently underway for “Affair En Plein Air,” a two-day outdoor, juried painting experience with partner GroveHouse Artists at the Deering Estate on Saturday, January 18, 2020 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Sunday, January 19, 2020 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Categories include adults 18 years and older and high school students grades 9-12. Judging will take place on Sunday, January 19 at 1:30 p.m. and winners and submissions will be exhibited at the Deering Estate in the early spring of 2020. The event is juried by Marcelle Zanetti. Registration deadline is January 10, 2020. No registrations will be taken on the day of the event.
Plein air (French pronunciation: [ɑ̃ plɛn ɛːʁ]) painting is a long standing tradition of painting in the “open and full air” directly from nature, rather than work done in a studio or from photos or other recorded images. Artists will paint scenes on-site and in the plein air of the beautiful and historic Deering Estate grounds.
$35 Adult registration fee for Non-GroveHouse Artists (up to 2 pieces)
$25 Adult registration fee for GroveHouse Artists members (up to 2 pieces)
$25 High school students, Grades 9-12, with one chaperone (up to 2 pieces)
Light snacks, coffee, and water will be provided, please bring a lunch and all supplies.
Artists interested in participating in the two-day outdoor juried painting event must complete a formal application, found here. $400 first place; $200 second place; $100 third place; $100 Honorable Mention. Student cash prizes totaling $500. Adults and students will be judged on-site.
About the Juror, Marcelle Zanetti
Marcelle completed her B.S. in Painting and Art Education at Southern Connecticut State University in 1976. Moving from Massachusetts in 1980, she rented her first studio in Stuart, Florida. She hasn’t stopped creating the finest oil and acrylic paintings since then. Her work includes large scale, abstract paintings depicting nature. Marcelle’s paintings are widely collected by Private and Corporate Clients. Marcelle has managed a Gallery in Wynwood as well as owned and operated a Gallery and Studio in Miami. She has taught painting once a week at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden in Coral Gables. In between those times, she creates new paintings for her gallery and private commissions. Marcelle’s paintings have been shown in Museums and Galleries throughout North and South America.
