Living Artist Concert Series

The Deering Estate Chamber Ensemble - Founding Artists: Dr. José R. López (Pianist), Laura Wilcox (Violist), Ross Harbaugh (Cellist) and Scott Flavin (Violinist) with guests.

The Living Artist Concert Series (LACS) combines ensemble performances with lectures, visual art exhibits, environmental awareness and interpretive programs. It acquaints the public with the best of South Florida's artistic spirit through collaborations with faculty from the University of Miami and Florida International University, principal players of regional, national, and international professional orchestras, top youth performers and national/international guest composers. Concerts are held in the historic Stone House Ballroom - which provides intimate seating for 125 guests, possesses superb natural acoustics for chamber music and offers a perfect environment for the exhibition of visual art. The Deering Estate Chamber Ensemble performed LIVE on 91.3 WLRN South Florida's Art Beat on Friday, October 2, 2009.

Friday, Oct. 15, 2010 “Unveiling”
Deering Estate Chamber Ensemble with guest musician Bernice Harbaugh, featuring music by Joaquín Turina, José White, Gilberto Valdes, Ernesto Lecuona, and Johannes Brahms in a historical celebration of the greatest gifts from our country’s 19th Century Industrialists.

Friday, Nov. 19, 2010 “Liszt and His Circle”
Founding members of the Deering Estate Chamber Ensemble and guest Bernice Harbaugh performing music by Franz Liszt, Robert Schumann, Frédéric Chopin, and Charles V. Alkan…celebrating the inaugural season of the American Liszt Society – FIU Chapter.

Friday, Jan. 14, 2011 “Elements of Air”
Luciano Magnanini, guest bassoonist, with members of the Deering Estate Chamber Ensemble present music by Wolfgang A. Mozart, François Devienne, Camille Saint-Saëns, and Robert Schumann.

Sunday, February 6, 2011 SoBay Festival of the Arts "Emergination"
Brunch in the Stone House Ballroom. Piano Series featuring emerging pianists from the FIU School of Music Piano Department in a thematic concert reflecting works inspired by nature. 11:30 am to 1:30 pm.

Friday, Feb. 18, 2011 “Wind, String and Hammers”
Bergonzi String Quartet with Guest clarinetist Margaret Donahue, featuring music by Rebecca Clarke, Wolfgang A. Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven and Charles V. Alkan with members of the Deering Estate Chamber Ensemble.

Friday, March 18, 2011 “Female Perspective”
An introduction to some of the greatest women composers, obscured to most of the public, featuring music by Fanny Mendelssohn, Mana-Zucca, and Felix Mendelssohn, along with guest composer Victoria Bond and members of the Deering Estate Chamber Ensemble.

Sunday, April 17, 2011 “Waters of Biscayne Bay”
Deering Estate Chamber Ensemble presenting music by Johann Vanhal, Judith Shatin and Antonín Dvorák with Composer in Residence - Judith Shatin. Premier of Shatin’s new work - an interactive piece that includes a sound installation depicting the waters of the Biscayne Aquifer.
