Call to Artists
The Deering Estate at Cutler is a geographic location rich with cultural possibilities and the neighboring area is rich in cultural diversity. In 2006, the Estate began to invest in the development of programs specifically to engage local and international, juried, visual and performance artists to interact with our community. Our Fall 2008 Juried Photography Exhibition is a NEW program that will become a permanent feature to our ongoing art on loan program. We wish to engage local and visiting photographers with the public and give them the opportunity to showcase their work to a broad audience. Located along the edge of Biscayne Bay, the 444-acre Deering Estate at Cutler is an environmental, archeological and historical preserve, with photographic opportunities to capture native flora and fauna, historic architecture and beautiful bay vistas.
APPLICATION PROCESS Photographers interested in participating in the Fall 2008 Juried Photography Exhibit must complete a formal application. In addition. Photographers must participate in a specially scheduled photography shoot or make arrangements with the Exhibits and Collections coordinator to come on to the Estate during regular Estate hours (10 am—4:30 pm, 7 days a week). DEADLINE: MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 15, 2008
COSTS Application must be received in advance with a non-refundable entry fee of $25, made payable to the Deering Estate Foundation, Inc. The photographer is responsible for supplying his/her own camera, equipment, materials and anything necessary to complete his/her submission.
JUDGING: October 12, 3 pm, Palm Grove. Winners will be announced at 4:30 pm. Juried work will remain on exhibit through Nov. 3rd.
ENTRY FORM: The application is attached, available on-line or can be obtained in hard copy from a Deering Estate at Cutler staff member. Please complete the entry form attached and return it with $25 entry fee. RESPONSIBILITIES Photographers agree to capture their images for submission onsite. Each applicant may submit up to 2 framed photographs for judging. All work should be no larger that 48” x 48” including frame, plexiglass, glass or protective coating. Final submissions must be framed, ready for hanging with wire in place. Work not properly framed will be disqualified. We request that participants credit all work that is exhibited or reproduced elsewhere, as such: “Produced while visiting the Deering Estate at Cutler.” If accepted into the exhibition, photographers agree to contribute 10% of any photo sales transacted during the exhibit back to the Estate. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place submissions.
SHIPPING AND HANDLING All work must be delivered and retrieved by the artist or an agent of the artist. The Deering Estate at Cutler will not be responsible for work left past the pick up dates.
